Artichoke or Ornamental Thistle?

Only time will tell..the lady on the next patch reckons it's a thistle for attracting bees but I reckon it's Globe Artichoke...Mick the Allotment Rep agrees! I will be planting my own 'Chokes' from last year in this patch.


After 4 Hours of Digging

Phew! Lots of raspberry roots and bindweed.
This little lot is going to takes ages to pull out and rot. I started by removing the top layer of growth hoping that there would be problem free topsoil underneath but no chance! It's riddled...

There's a Compost Heap Under There Somewhere!

I'll burn most of this but it's a good place to store and dry out roots and weeds for now...
